The meetings involve sharing, inspiring and having fun! We were excited to be able to celebrate Eco-Schools' 30th birthday!

We took part in various activities to celebrate including 'Qwoga', alternative party games and making our own party bags, eco-friendly bunting and gifts such as decorative rocks and plants.

We had the opportunity to explore the gardens and enjoy our lunch in the sunshine.

A day at the National Botanic Gardens was finished off with a visit to the gift shop and park!

National Eco-Committee 2023 - "Global Solutions - Celebrating how people are tackling the climate and biodiversity crises"

Four members of the Change Makers alongside Mrs. Gentle, Mrs. Bailey and Miss. Davies visited the National Botanic Gardens in Carmarthen to take part in the annual National Eco-Committee meeting. The meeting involved sharing our own projects to improve biodiversity and tackle climate change at our schools.

We had a fantastic day learning about different successful solutions from around the world that help tackle climate change including:

Insect farming

Planting seagrass and mangroves in Abu Dhabi

Storing carbon dioxide in Oman

Hydrogen power

Regrowing coral reefs

Solar powered ironing carts

Seaweed forests

Ocean cleanup

3D printing of fish

We had the opportunity to chat with other schools and share our climate change work. We brought our own soil from school and took part in an experiment to identify the type of soil we had at our school.

We heard from experts on Seagrass who showed us their work and how it helps improve biodiversity around Wales. We tried seaweed as a sustainable food source. Some of us liked it, some of us didn't!

We walked around the gardens and had lunch under the glass dome.

We finished the day off with a bit of worm charming...Abercerdin were the Eco-Schools worm charming champions, our tactics helped us charm 13 worms compared to our nearest competitor's total of 5.

We enjoyed some free time in the park before heading home!
