Our Commitment to the Evanstown Community

At Abercerdin Primary, we believe that strong partnerships are the foundation of thriving communities. We are committed to being a positive force for good in Evanstown.

We dedicate our time and energy to developing initiatives that foster a vibrant, economically stable community.

To achieve this, we will take an active role in building strong connections with parents, guardians, extended families, charities, local community groups, institutions, local government, and support agencies.

We recognise that community engagement is a shared benefit. By working together, parents and families not only support local initiatives but also enhance their own skills and experiences.

Pupils Agreement

At Abercerdin Primary, I will:

  • Be the best version of myself – Stay positive, confident, and honest. Believe in my abilities, aim high, and always do my best.

  • Be respectful – Show kindness, good manners, and excellent behaviour. Wear my uniform with pride, care for my school environment, and value all learning.

  • Be responsible – Attend regularly and on time, take ownership of my learning, and always try my best. Use the Zones of Regulation to manage my emotions and seek help when needed.

  • Be safe – Look after myself and others, follow school rules, and demonstrate good sportsmanship. Respect people, property, and the school community.

Parents Agreement

As a parent/carer at Abercerdin Primary, I will:

  • Be respectful – Work in partnership with the school, support my child’s behaviour, attend parents’ meetings, and communicate any concerns positively and promptly.

  • Be responsible – Ensure my child attends school regularly, arrives on time, and is collected promptly. Support their home learning, reading, and ensure they have the correct uniform, PE kit, and equipment.

  • Be safeShare any concerns that may affect my child’s well-being or learning, and raise any queries directly with school staff in the first instance.

Governance at Abercerdin Primary

At Abercerdin Primary, our governors are committed to working as critical friends, supporting and challenging the school in line with our shared vision and core beliefs. They focus on the school’s strategic direction rather than representing individual parental concerns.

Governors attend three full governing body meetings per year, with three dedicated to the school’s development plan. They also participate in sub-committee meetings, which include:

  • Standards
  • Finance
  • Health and Safety
  • Staffing

Governors at Abercerdin agree to:

  • Be respectful – Work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team, offering constructive challenge and ensuring clear, effective communication with parents and the wider school community.

  • Be responsible – Attend meetings regularly, engage in relevant training, and actively contribute to maintaining and improving school standards.

  • Be safe – Visit the school to understand its environment, take a broad interest in all areas of the curriculum, and observe lessons at least once a year in a supportive capacity.

Governors play a vital role in guiding Abercerdin Primary forward, ensuring the school remains a place where every child can thrive.

Abercerdin Primary Staff Agreement

At Abercerdin Primary, we are committed to providing the best possible education for every child, guided by our core beliefs: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe.

As a school, we will:

  • Be Respectful – Build a strong partnership with parents and carers, maintaining open communication through regular updates, meetings, and newsletters.

  • Be Responsible – Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum based on the Curriculum for Wales and the Literacy and Numeracy Framework, ensuring it meets the needs of all learners. Maintain high expectations for behaviour, learning, and well-being through clear policies and consistent support.

  • Be Safe – Provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where children can develop academically, personally, and socially. Ensure all staff stay informed on educational developments and share relevant updates with parents when appropriate.

Strive for Excellence – Continually evaluate and improve our teaching to provide high-quality learning experiences. Set appropriate homework that supports learning and offer extracurricular opportunities to enrich every child’s education.

By working together, we will support our pupils in becoming independent, confident, and well-rounded individuals.
